CHERYL C. VAN HORN, OD, FAAODr. Cheryl C. Van Horn was raised in Harrison County in West Virginia. After receiving a Bachelor's Degree, magna cum laude, from West Virginia Wesleyan College, she went to Pennsylvania College of Optometry in Philadelphia, achieving a B.S. and a Doctor of Optometry degree there, as a top 10% honor graduate. Dr. Van Horn is a member of the Beta Sigma Kappa honorary, and became a Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry in 1994, being one of only a handful in the state to be so honored. She is certified in the Treatment and Management of Ocular Diseases by the International Boards of Optometry. With a strong interest in pediatric and developmental optometry, she was cited on graduation from PCO for excellence in pediatric eyecare, and has been a member of the Optometric Extension Program and the College of Optometrists in Vision Development, organizations dedicated to continuing education in the areas of developmental and behavioral optometry. Dr. Van Horn has been a Clinical Examiner for the National Board of Examiners in Optometry for many years. She is also an active member of the West Virginia Optometric Association, serving on the board and on many committees. She also belongs to the American Optometric Association, and the AOA Contact Lens Section. Dr. Van Horn lectures frequently to the West Virginia Paraoptometric Association, and to community groups. Dr. Van Horn is a member of the Salem Seventh Day Baptist Church, and has been actively involved in community organizations such as the Fairmont Jaycees, the Marion Environmental Coalition, the Junior League of Fairmont, and Kiwanis. Dr. Van Horn is married to Theodore Yoneda, a lawyer and civil structural engineer who is now employed as a legal consultant for the FBI. Their children are Ezra and Isaac, who may often be seen visiting our office. |
CLAUD A. KENDALL, OD, FAAOClaud A. Kendall, O.D., F.A.A.O. sees patients now on Tuesdays and Fridays in our office. He was raised here in Marion County, and attended Fairmont State College for his undergraduate studies. He then received his doctoral degree from Illinois College of Optometry. Dr. Kendall is renowned as an expert in the fitting of firm contact lenses and hold several patents on contact lens designs. He has written and lectured on contact lenses and other topics for the National Eye Research Foundation and West Virginia University, among others. He and his wife, Florine, have resided in Fairmont and been active in the community since he began his practice.

KAREN REEDKaren has been with us for twenty years. She is our expert in optical eyewear and lens selection. She coordinates all of our orders from our labs and suppliers. Karen also helps with contact lens training and dispensing, and assists with patient testing when needed. She lives in Fairmont with her husband Tom and son Johnny, and is active with the Gateway United Methodist Church. |
DONNA HARKIDonna is our dispensing assistant. She handles frame and lens selection, checks in eyewear orders from the lab, provides contact lens training, and dispenses and fits new eyeglasses and contact lenses to patients. Donna lives in Idamay with her husband, Gary, and kids Adam, Ben and Emily, where they are active in the Idamay United Methodist Church. |
AMANDA THOMPSONMandy joined our practice in the spring of 2010 after completing her medical assistant degree. She is currently the clinical optometric assistant in our office. Mandy lives in Fairmont with her father and two children, Dallas and Skylyn. She attends the Norway Church of Christ. |
MILINDA EFAWAs our business assistant, Milinda is usually seen at the front desk greeting you as you enter our office. Milinda handles our billing and insurance claims. |
CHRISTI MCINTOSHIt is with out great sorrow that we no longer have Christi in our practice, as she lost her battle with cancer in March 2010. Christi had been a vital part of Vision Health Care for 15 years. We miss her. She was also able and willing to help in just about any area of the practice. Christi has served the board of the West Virginia Paraoptometric Association in many offices, and she was chosen the WV Paraooptometric of the Year several years ago. |
EZRA YONEDAEzra is Dr. Van Horn's older son. He is now nine years old. He enjoys 4th grade, swimming, soccer, computer games, LEGOs, and chatting and showing off to patients in our office. |
ISAAC YONEDADr. Van Horn's son Isaac is now seven years old. He's a great swimmer, plays baseball and soccer, and enjoys the second grade. |
